The Bull was first broadcast as CFQC-AM in the 1920s, and later became an affiliate of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation in 1934. The Bull also had its own television station in the 1950s, 929thebullrocks and later switched to a country format.
CFQC-FM, also known as 92.9 The Bull, originally started broadcasting at 750 AM. After rebranding and 929thebullrocks (derrida.ws) changing call letters to CKBL, the station changed its name to CKBL. The CKBL name and 929thebullrocks (derrida.ws) brand were retired at 6 AM on November 1, 2007. In the same morning, “92-9 The Bull” signed on with the song “Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy” by Big & Rich. The station adopted an Active Country format in the early 1980s.
CKBL-FM is part of the Saskatoon Media Group. The station shares studios with sister stations CJWW and CJMK-FM in the city’s north end. CFQC-AM was originally founded in 1923 by A. “Pappy” Murphy and David Streb. The Bull was later renamed to CKBL-FM.
