let me put my my smarty arty glasses online to let y’all know I’m serious okay now I said that I was going to this video oh hi everybody I said that I was gonna do this video a while back about a small business ownership and sort of a few do’s and don’ts of the small business world if you will and these are just things that I’ve learned along the way being a small business owner and as well as my little two cents as a consumer what I what I know would I guess help people like some stuff I see I’m like if they didn’t have that their business would go so much farther out that’s what I’m here to talk to talk to you about a kind of you know some do’s and don’ts that’s it okay so let’s start with the basics in this this is really the whole video is about to be about basics this I’m not going to go in depth about any one particular thing I might going a little bit long with the website stuff but as far as the whole video this is gonna be basics things you know lightly touch the one here in there okay so let’s get started okay this is something bad this is the first thing I had to take those glasses all I’m sorry they were pinching my face but this is the first thing that I want to cover with you guys and you’re gonna hear this throughout the entire video professionalism you want to be professional when there’s an exchange of money for goods all that familiarity all that you know kiddin around jokes all that goes right out the window because people are serious about their money they’re serious about spending their money one something that may be a luxury something that isn’t necessarily you know life or death for them this is something that they’re purchasing from you where they could go somewhere else and get it but they’re deciding to patronize your business so you want to keep it professional okay it’s your customer skills game okay think about how you get treated when you go out to different establishments or when you call customer service lines for different businesses how do you like to be treated like a human being right take that and do the same thing with your own business you wanna know when to shut up let the customer tell you what their issue is or compliment even nope just shut your mouth listen and then number two know when to kind of verse I guess it goes with shut up know when to respond and always when you do respond be courteous be kind and be nice being nice costs nothing nothing at all and it makes people’s day when you’re nice so that always keep that in mind is to always be nice regardless on what kind of day you’re having be nice and smile okay and the last thing you want to work on your problem skills we’re going you’re problem-solving skill excuse me if you can’t solve problems effectively you’re gonna lose a lot of free product trying to keep customers happy that may or may not return back to you okay when it comes to your business name generally try to pick something that is easily said by the masses you want to go for general public main here you don’t want to go for you know hood rich productions or something that’s not something that and no offense anyone that has something called hood rich productions but you got to think more globally versus one genre of people that’s going to be patronizing your biz whatever you’re selling whatever you’re doing you want to think of how is this going to affect more than one demographic of people that say I want to reach if your name is offensive cursing in it if it you know if it’s something that can’t be you know said publicly by all ages of people and all types of people then the next thing you should do is buy your domain name you always want to buy your domain name simply because nine times out of ten when someone goes to get more information about your company and your product that you’re selling they do what they go to google google google search your business name you don’t want long list of 1215 others with your same business names to pop up first and you’re at the back of the of the you know search you want your unique business name to be the maybe the first one the first page at the very least let it be on the first page your whether you want to believe this or not your website represents your business it’s in an unspoken representation of the type of business you have the type of business that you’re dealing with and just all-around what type of business owner you are if you allow a nice website to be online representing your company a bad website whatever that’s a reflection of you as a business owner so it’s probably in your best interest to get a professional to work on your website if you’re not that computer savvy if you’re not savvy with you know web templates or building a website from the ground up get someone’s okay you don’t want your website to look like a MySpace page meaning if you are not selling you something that you are doing say you’re a lecturer or you’re a personal not even a personal chef but something that you provide personally like you are what what’s being sold if that’s not the case for your business take all of your personal pictures off of your website I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gone to a website and I see the owners pictures pictures splashed everywhere unnecessarily it reminds me of my like again it reminds me of my space if I see a website that looks like a MySpace page I don’t take you see I know somebody’s gonna say well I’m dragged out my pictures all of my website and I’m a top to sell in blah blah blah that’s cool this is just my opinion again I’m giving you my opinion as a consumer and as a small business owner this is what I’ve seen what works in my eyes and what doesn’t work in my eyes so this is just my opinion you don’t have to take this as you know the end-all be-all for small businesses this is just my opinion if you’re gonna have a website if you’re if you must ‘lord have your picture on your own website have it in the about Us section or about the company you know where they give a little bio about the company you can have your picture there no harm in that because you are the owner of the company but anywhere else on the site key 9 times 10 when someone’s surfing the web during the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. they’re surfing the web at work it is what it is you’re not supposed to do it but people sneak one online all day long so knowing this no one wants to have rap music blasting when they click on your website and you sell shoe insoles no one wants to hear whatever music taste you have because guess what your music tastes may not be the next person’s music taste no one wants to hear that no one wants to hear you know rock music when they click on your site for hats or whatever the case so my request my suggestion is to kill all music altogether okay have professional keep are you guys hearing the keyword and everything that I’m saying professional professionalism have professional pictures taken of your product that you know selling be like a hundred percent better when people go to your site they can get a better idea of what your product looks like in the right light and the right setting and the right whatever versus you know your camera phone or whatever you have that’s taking pictures in this should go without needing to be said but apparently I need to say this because I’ve seen this one a few different places unfortunately but it is what it is keep the foul language the cursing the extra slang keep that for your personal you know Twitter page or whatever keep that for your personal use and not your business website anytime I see cursing on a website it like they don’t have my fur I tell you that they I’m not buying last but not least let’s talk about business Network wait business and social networking just real quick I think it’s best that you if you are on various social networks MySpace Facebook Twitter what else is out there whatever social network pops up in the future that everyone you know gravitates to create one for your personal self and for your business that way the two worlds don’t mix you can speak freely curse talk about sex whatever you talk about in your everyday life keep that one your personal on your personal page on your business the only thing literally that should be on your business social networking sites should be information about your businesses should be pictures of customers with your product anything regarding your business should be on your social networking sites no I don’t I don’t want to hear target on Twitter I’m not here I don’t want to read targets Twitter and see a bunch of cursing and disrespect or even worse derogatory language races a little quotes or whatever I don’t want to see that one anybody’s website I don’t want to see out on target so I want to see out on anybody’s website so I say that to save the if you must curse and if you must you know say dirty jokes or you know just talk like you talk to your friends keep that for your personal social networking sites you can be on every single one of those and have all of your friends follow you on your personal websites or on your personal social sites when it comes to business keep it separate and keep it I think I covered everything you guys I hope I covered everything yeah well no I actually didn’t cuz honey they’re so so much that goes into you know entrepreneurial shipping is that even a word we gonna make it one today just being an entrepreneur and of course Google is an excellent resource for everything whether it be your product wholesale information business licensing trademark just everything is available through Google so don’t be afraid to use Google just again if you have questions on anything on where to start go to ask comm you can type in what Yahoo questions that you can there’s so many resources out there you just have to take that first step to use the resources available to you everything ain’t on You Tube let’s be let’s be real about that and not everybody is gonna be willing to help you out when you ask course you’re gonna fumble when you first start off this your first business um if it isn’t your first business you’re still gonna fumble regardless on how many businesses you decide to start up because you’re in business for yourself you’re going to fumble and you’re going to make mistakes so when you do it’s up to you to not give up after you’ve made said mistakes it’s up to you to keep pushing forward and learn from the mistakes that you’ve made and take it and run with it and make your business hopefully better from it okay so I hope I helped you guys a little bit with a couple things that I’ve noticed and a couple things I’ve learned so far and yeah if you have any serious
