Hey, John Sonmez from simpleprogrammer.com. I’ve got another video for you about a topic
that I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. In fact, I’ve sort of changed my mind on
this. I’ve given some advice on this channel about
this idea of how would you start a business, how’s the most effective way to start an
online business. I’ve been recently listening to this podcast
called the McMethod Podcast. I’ll put a link in in the notes below, but
basically this guy that does this podcast. It’s an internet marketing kind of copywriting. John McIntyre is his name and he considers
himself the auto responder guy. If you’re not familiar with the marketing
terms he basically specializes in writing emails for auto response emails. If you want to see an example of an auto responder

go to devcareerboost.com/blog-course and you can sign up. Basically it’s emails that you send out
automatically on some kind of sequence. Usually that’s done to sell something or
to educate someone. Anyway this guy has created this podcast and
one of the interesting things about him is that he lives in Thailand. He lives in this area in Thailand. I think he’s from Australia originally,
so he’s not from Thailand, he’s Australian. It’s kind of interesting. I was thinking, “Why does he live in Thailand?” That kind of got me thinking a lot about—rethinking
about how I would start an internet business today. In the past I have said that you should live
in your parents’ basement and not take a real world job but instead just focusing on
building your business, keep your expenses as low as possible. I’ve given ideas like basically you should
maybe rent out a room. Maybe if you can make your expenses be like
250 bucks a month renting or sharing a room or sharing an apartment and renting out a
room in that apartment and then you have minimal groceries, you keep that minimal so that maybe
your whole living expenses especially, if you’re single. A lot of you that are listening—I don’t
want angry wives and spouses telling me that John is saying we need to rent out a room
and live for $250 a month. If you’re starting out I still think that’s
really good advice and you can go out there and rent a room. The idea is to keep your living expenses as
low as possible because there’s this thing, freedom is when your passive income which
if you’re creating an online business that should be what you’re trying to create is
when your passive income is equal to or more than your living expenses. There are 2 ways to get there, right? One is to generate a lot of passive income
and 2 is to have a small amount of living expenses. If you can do both at the same time, if you
can make your living expenses be low and your passive income be high, then you’re going
to be in good shape. The best way is usually to make your living
expenses low. Again, if you’re starting out what is my
current advice on this? Going back to the story of John McIntyre in
Thailand, well, you know that you can live pretty nicely in Thailand for $500 a month
and they have real good internet connection. It started to click here. Again, you’re probably not going to pick
up and move your whole family there, but if you’re a young guy or gal starting out and
you want to create an online business, you want to be an entrepreneur. If I were starting out today what I would
probably do is move to Thailand. I’m fully serious here. I’m not even kidding. Move to Thailand and pay 500 bucks—if your
whole living expenses is $500 a month, you know how quickly you can build an internet
business that generates 500 bucks a month of passive income? If you just saved up enough living expenses
to live for 6 months in Thailand, that’s $3000, save up $3000 move to Thailand, spend
6 months just focusing on building your online business and you will be at $500 a month as
long as you have any kind of a decent idea and execution in 6 months, less than 6 months
probably. That’s my advice. That’s my new hack for starting an online
business. Again, it’s not going to apply to everyone
although if you’re really enterprising maybe you move your whole family to Thailand. Yeah, that’s it. The basic idea behind it is just that you
lower your living expenses as much as possible. If you don’t have the ability to move to
Thailand, I mean realistically if you have a family or something maybe you do have a
really big house that’s bigger than you need. Maybe you do have 2 cars and car payments
and maybe—if you’re serious about doing this and becoming an entrepreneur then maybe
you need to look at downsizing and fairing out how can you get your expenses down as
low as possible and then can you save up enough money to be able to create a business in that
time to be able to get past those expenses. Like I said, from my own experience when I
decided to go the entrepreneurial route, I already had fixed living expenses that were
a couple of grand a month. If I were starting out as a young kid doing
this, I would have started out and tried to keep my living expenses to under 1000 bucks
a month. I could have been free and never had to work
for the man again in a very short amount of time instead of spending 15 years working
for the man trying to get free. So yeah, take it from my experience and maybe
you’ll have a quicker route to freedom than it took me. Take care and also if you have a question
