The 33-year-old took to Instagram to share the week-old video where he and his make-up artist Bernice Cole took the plunge with matching ‘Girl Power’ art work.

In the clip the presenter can be seen in a white polo shirt and skinny jeans, laying on the tattoo parlour’s table.

As the artist inscribes the words on his ankle, the Radio 2 presenter grimaces in pain, looking to the camera before finally turning away.

With Spice Girl’s Spice Up You Life playing, his friend captioned the shot ‘Took it like a champ’. 

In another shot the former X Factor star tenderly sits at his friends side as she receives her turn writing ‘This time last week @Rylan..’.

Later the duo model their new tattoos in the mirror as they playfully kick their legs in the air. 

Writing: ”LOVE THEM!Thank you so much @mistercoletattoo @eclectrisnaketattoo for the cute matching tattoos’.

Pal Bernice modelled her new tattoo for the camera, with the famous phrase written in cursive.

Rylan confirmed the meaning behind the tattoos on his BBC Radio Two show, following his recent return to the station after he took leave during his separation from husband Dan Neal.

He said: “This week I had a tattoo done. I have had a tattoo on my leg – ‘girl power’. It’s real. It’s for the Spice Girls.” 

The broadcaster took to Instagram recently to announce that he has written a tell-all memoir, titled TEN, to mark a decade in showbiz. 

Admitting the past year in particular: ‘I learnt so many lessons!’ before adding: ‘it’s been a journey’ as he revealed that the autobiography will be released on 29 September. 

Rylan wrote alongside: ‘TEN: The decade that changed my future.Wow. All the emotions. This book celebrates ten years of me being in this crazy industry. We all know I should have lasted ten minutes, so how I’ve lasted ten years, I’ll never know

Rylan stepped down from his BBC Radio 2 show for four months last year after splitting from husband Dan.

The couple married in 2015 at Braxted Park in Essex with guests including his This Morning co-stars Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes.

They met in 2013 and got engaged in Paris.In July 2016, they stepped in for Eamonn and Ruth, becoming the first gay couple to present the ITV programme.

 Friends insisted the couple spent weeks ‘trying to work through their problems’, but the marriage is now said to be unsalvageable.
