Everywhere in the world women live longer than men – but this was not always the case. The available data from rich countries shows that women didn’t live longer than men in the 19th century. What is the reason women live more than men do today and how is this difference growing over time? We only have partial evidence and the evidence isn’t strong enough to make an informed conclusion. While we are aware that there are behavioral, biological as well as environmental factors which all play a part in the longevity of women over men, we don’t know how much each one contributes.
We are aware that women are living longer than men, regardless of their weight. But it is not because of certain non-biological factors have changed. What are these changing factors? Some are well known and relatively straightforward, like the fact that men smoke more often. Some are more complex. The first chart below shows life expectancy at birth for men and women. It is clear that every country is over the line of parity diagonally. This implies that a baby girl from any country can expect to live longer than her brothers.
This graph shows that although women have an advantage across all countries, differences between countries are often significant. In Russia women live 10 years longer than males. In Bhutan the gap is less that half a year.

In the richer countries, the advantage of women in longevity was smaller
Let’s look at the way that female advantages in longevity has changed with time. The next chart plots male and تحاميل مهبلية (reviews over at Hnm 910 Synology) female life expectancies at birth in the US between 1790 and 2014. Two areas stand out.
The first is that there is an upward trend. Both genders living in America are living longer than they used to a century ago. This is in line with historical increases in life expectancy everywhere in the world.
Second, the gap is getting wider: Although the advantage of women in terms of life expectancy was tiny, it has increased substantially over time.
It is possible to verify that these points are also applicable to other countries with data by clicking on the “Change country” option in the chart. This includes the UK, France, and Sweden.
