to tonight’s webinar we are here live with Susan sly for 10 tips every home business owner should know I’m incredibly excited for the information that’s used to share with us tonight Susan is an absolute rock star she is a balanced living expert who has you know she has done what most of us strive to do in our careers she’s an author best-selling author in fact she’s a speaker she’s a self-made millionaire and you might know Susan’s live from her presence on the stage at things like no excuses go pro recruiting mastery and she’s actually in the movie the rise of the entrepreneur with Eric Laurie Susan has been blessed to share the stage with people like Jack Canfield Mark Victor Hansen the late Jim Rome absolutely incredible accomplishments from a woman who is a mom of five and it has done is so much in her life she’s absolutely passionate about teaching what the truly wealthy do their habits their practices and I for one I’m excited to learn from Susan tonight and I hope that you’ve got a pen and paper ready to go as Susan teach us her principles the 10 tips that every home business owner should know welcomes his inside well things Melanie for the great introduction it’s awesome to be here and I want to learn who’s here alive in this hangout like how cool is technology I mean what a great leveraging piece and those of you who are tuning in I would just encourage you to get present there are a lot more than 10 tips that home-based business owners have who are successful but we’re gonna cover 10 definitely Melanie and I’m super super excited to help everyone who’s tuning in to get to the next level excellent so Susan I know that you’ve just come back from New York your is shooting a piece for CNN and CNBC about your book coming your organizer life principles can you tell the folks who are watching how you came to be so passionate about organization for entrepreneurs oh for sure I mean if you told me 15 years ago when I was and I lost a business and I ended up homeless that you know fast word time you’re gonna be flying to New York and shooting a show that’s gonna air on CNN and CNBC and Fox I would have said you’re crazy and then if you’d said you’re gonna be talking about organization for entrepreneurs I would have said you are insane I mean because I was one of the most disorganized people and it really cost me I don’t know if everyone can relate but I was that person who I said yes to everything I mean you know Susan do you want to guest lecture at the University yes Susan do you want to be on the radio Sunday morning yes you would I don’t a health club do I teach a class do you want to UM you know train this client Oh someone called in sick now you have to teach their class and you know I taught five classes that day and I wrote a book that was endorsed by Jack Canfield my friend dr. John gray and it was called the half a tall woman and back in those days I was the do a tall woman and it really cost me and as entrepreneurs when we’re gasohol Express aying yes to everything especially things though that don’t get us to our goals it there is going to be something that’s gonna happen so what happened to me in January 2000 I was diagnosed with MS three days later in my marriage fell apart and 16 weeks later my health club cock clinic closed down and ended up on my brother-in-law sofa and it was just this incredible time because did I feel sorry for myself yeah was i angry yes was I disappointed yes but when I got to the heart of the matter and I really did some introspection Melanie I looked at the mirror and I went you know what there’s no one to blame for this but me and when I look back now one of the biggest biggest challenges was I was super disorganized I was flying by the seat of my pants and the reality is here’s a statistic from Harvard only 18% of first-time business owners actually succeed 18 percent so the bat Chaotica you know I I lost business that’s great but I swore that I would never do it again and civil over the course of time I studied from the best I did workshops with people like dr. David Hawkins Jack Canfield I’ve read hundreds and hundreds of books I’ve trained with Tony Robbins I mean so many different people and studying it’s of the highly successful people and I really credit getting organized and having these habits and adopting these habits with the thing that’s allowed me to become a multi-millionaire and that’s what I want for all of you you may be saying well Susan I don’t want to be a millionaire I just want to you know be a six-figure earner or whatever it’s you know and that’s fantastic those are your dreams and if I can do anything to help you succeed and embrace some of these habits here’s what I know yet the habits first and the money will come don’t try to chase the money and then get the habits so that’s why I was on CNN and Fox and CNBC that’s gonna be airing this fall my new book organized you like is coming out this fall I have a book project Jack Canfield is coming out this fall so it’s just been a whirlwind we’re in the middle of the move I’ve been hashtagging three houses 30 days closed at a house where you know closing a rental or buying a house so you know I’m living these principles myself while running multiple companies Melanie in it and my biggest message to everyone watching is yeah organize because the faster you get organized you’ve got these great habits the faster your success is gonna come you know I’ve really appreciated so much that I’ve learned so from you so far and even in reading they have it all woman and it your absolute rock bottom story if I bring that to my heart some days when I’m like ah life is goddess right I think okay she got from there to where she is so applying these principles has made an incredible impact in your life what you’ve been able to do not just for yourself but for the people that you impact across the globe and for you being able to give and so I want to thank you for you know taking the time to share what you’ve learned because you you could just do these things right and win but you did come a person you want to share this with the community with entrepreneurs so thank you since he went and just just say you know it was Bill Gates and Arianna Huffington who wrote last year they said the future of American I know there are people in Australia and Canada all over the world but the future economy is really in the hands of small based business owners and entrepreneurs and in the United States as an example I read a statistic that 70% of people want to become entrepreneurs that only 7% actually go ahead and start their own business but I think that once our minds are broadened Melanie we’re obligated to become entrepreneurs because let’s take a look at what’s going on you know companies are laying off people there are some people are being replaced by tech you’ve got Gen Y has a huge huge huge unemployment rate and and people may say well Suzanne you know the economy’s not doing that bad and you’re right but the unemployment numbers don’t actually include people who stop looking for work over six months and it depends on the country you’re in what they decide to do people who’ve never started looking for a job people coming out of school we have a lot of people who are baby boomers now who are struggling because imperfectly us didn’t recover from the recession and I’ll tell you something you need an entrepreneur starting your own business and being organized at it can really change your life and if you don’t take control of your circumstances no one else is gonna do that for you and that’s why I love entrepreneurs I love meeting people are doing startups I love the people who are out there sharing ideas making things happen and these tips I’m going to be sharing and hanging out a really applicable regardless of the business that you’re in so I’m just so excited to see everyone succeed I’m so excited to be here I mean honest to goodness guys I let you know let’s all link arms and become massively wildly successful entrepreneurs and help a lot of people in the process but I’m excited so the principles are gonna share with us are really for the principles of the wealthy regardless the industry that they’re in know that ought to tell you something it’s not just you know it’s it’s for everybody so no matter who is watching these principles will improve your life so ready ten well the first one is that wealthy entrepreneurs focus on really just three key things and I years and years and years ago I read the biography of a gentleman by the name of Casey Irving he was a Canadian billionaire Irving oiled his children spun off and they did Cavendish foods and different and the story went like this my grandmother actually used to drive an oil truck for kiss earrings there’s been a family story so KCR being every day used to write out only three things that he wanted to accomplish three income-producing activities and he only focused on those things he didn’t go from one to two until one was done and here’s the thing we’re amateurs really struggle is they’ll make this to-do list that’s miles and miles long and they don’t accomplish anything if they even make a list the wealthy highly productive people focus only on three things Darren Hardy who’s the publisher success magazine I absolutely love and admire Darren I’ve had the privilege to hang out with Tara in LA he’s brilliant and what did this thing I mean different has interviewed Richard Branson he has interviewed Donald Trump the wealthiest I know Donald popular right now I just but Arianna Huffington Oprah he’s interviewed Joel Osteen and the biggest thing about the successful people that that really he’s gotten to spend this time with is Darren says this bleep eagles everyday that’s it just three and when you think about that as an entrepreneur objectives really need to come down to bringing in new clients supporting the clients that you have and developing infrastructure to support huge clients I mean those are the key things so to be a successful entrepreneur it’s really nearly not focused Melanie so that’s a very first point and the thing that I suggest people do every single day is that they write out the three key things that they want to accomplish and that leads me to point number two is that the wealthy write things out the night before and here’s a statistic for you 81 percent of wealthy entrepreneurs use a day planner I know what summer you’re thinking but series and my calendars on my smartphone well in the course I teach for home based business owners one of the things we look at and one of my amazing amazing friend sandy botkin who is a where he’s a CPA he trained IRS attorneys if that if you’re ever audited as a home-based business owner and 8% I believe 80% of small business owners are audited they’re gonna come and they’re gonna take a look at what is your schedule what were you doing and so on and so forth and you say well season I’ve got my schedule on my phone and not god bless you I’m glad you do but has your phone ever broken have you dropped it has your computer ever crashed so one of the things we know is 81% of wealthy entrepreneurs keep a day planner and get this 19% only 19% of people who are porn people are struggle struggle actually keep an agenda so one of the things I suggest you do I learned this from the great Jim Rohn who mentor Tony Robbins is that you plan your day in advance and that’s what wealthy entrepreneurs do they don’t just win again the Marengo well you know what am I going to do say oh it’s kind of random they write it out the night before and so before you go to bed tonight if you’re an entrepreneur or wanting to be an entrepreneur then you write out your day in advance you pick your top three goals and you focus and you focus you focus on those until they are complete and if you don’t get them done then you know you move them to the next day and here’s another statistic is that wealthy people accomplish are you ready for this almost 70% of everything they put on their list 70% which is crazy and I believe this statistic is people who are poor and struggle accomplish less than 6 percent of it it’s better to write less and accomplish more than to write a lot and not accomplish too much the third thing is that the wealthy focus their time on income producing activities so that’s generating new clients bringing in business and that’s about 80% of their time and one of my mentors Harvey Mackay who I have a special section of my new book dedicated to Harvey he Harvey has written seven New York Times bestselling novels that are best-selling books perme novels TV really be upset if I said novels let me recount that seven new york times bestselling books including swim with the sharks or get eaten a lot deep your well for you thirsty and harvey says you do the things that make you the most money first so here’s what amateur entrepreneurs do they kind of like oh I’m just gonna shuffle papers I’m going to a podcast or I’m good you know whatever it is they’re gonna do it’s just busy work it’s not productive work where’s the people who really make it they get up and guess what they’re doing things that they you know you might not want to do but they do them anyway they’re calling their prospects they’re following up they’re doing all those things and they do them first they get it out of the way it’s much like working out you know another statistic and I’ll get to this in a minute the wealthy schedule in time to work out and you know this morning I was up at 4:00 in the morning I am awake yeah I get up really early but I don’t always get it or that I’m awake I’m okay and so I’m not just sitting there going oh gee what should I do you know it’s very very deliberate and getting out getting my workout in and did I necessarily want to work at it a hundred and seventy creaseman Scottsdale today but no I did it anyway and here’s the thing write this down wealthy entrepreneurs do what no one else wants to do whether or not they want to do it right so they don’t always want to make those calls they don’t always want to call the clients potential clients and all those things but they do it anyway they do the things that make them the most money first number four wealthy entrepreneurs network and so 80% of wealthy entrepreneurs spend five hours a week or more developing their network and they’re great multitaskers so they might go golfing with potential clients people that you know are people of influence they’re spending time doing that and also going back to Harvey Mackay so I had the privilege and some of you may know this of spending two years in an exclusive roundtable with 37 people and we had an incredible time we were at Larry King’s house his wife Shaun make us cookies I had lunch with a previous governor Tim Pawlenty I was spent Hurricane Katrina with Charles Krauthammer and Steven Hayes from Fox News I mean it was it was incredible and I learned from you know amazing amazing amazing people and so one of the things Harvey taught us is to really develop our network and to develop a network guys here’s a little tip for you it isn’t about you scratch my back I’ll scratch yours it’s about being creative and doing things for people and not keeping score now ultimately people are keeping score but I’ll just give you an example I have a friend who I won’t say who it is but he is an endorser of my book and he’s a celebrity he’s been on television and he was going through a rough time and I just reached out to him and I said you know what I love to help you and I spent a lot of time with him when it came time as a year ago when it came time for me to ask for people to endorse my work to endorse what I did he see me speak in New York he said season I you know I will be there I will be there for you and you know this person has been on major network television so developing your network and wealthy people do that and in fact I would encourage you to make a list if you are fortunate enough to know here’s what ordinary average struggling entrepreneurs to these surround themselves with broke people now I’m getting a little passionate here because if you want to be successful you’ve got to surround yourself with people who are making it and your rolodex needs to have people in it who are multiple six-figure earners and seven figure earners if you are very fortunate enough to have the private information of a millionaire a multi-millionaire and you’re not taking advice from them and you’re listening to people who’ve never made it you’re never gonna be successful and when I started out I said I am gonna have the knit the phone numbers of seven millionaires and multimillionaires memorized I’m gonna know them by heart and when I call them they are gonna answer right and it wasn’t about being media it wasn’t about me going oh you know and I do and I see people like god bless them you know I do these speaking events and I did a speaking event with Gary Vaynerchuk Gary is very well known he wrote crush it you know so I was so poor arab warrior so much and here these guys are multimillionaires and people come up and tell them their whole life story and you know oh my gosh and that was three you knows this happened I fell off my bike and then this and this is why I can’t be successful as opposed to if you are in front of a multi-millionaire here some things you should ask them what books you read have you ever had a challenge how did you overcome it what does your day look like it’s not about you telling them your story because you’re just looking for sympathy and if you’re out there for the sympathy card guess what guys you are not gonna be successful it again I say that with love number five wealthy on burners get up early 44% of the wealthiest entrepreneurs they wake up three hours before they have to start their day that’s incredible and so they say early bird catches the worm so going back to harvey mackay again Harvey gets up he exercises he reads three major newspapers responds to correspondence and he does that all before 6:00 in the morning I personally get up and I’m not saying I’m the gold standard but I make a couple million dollars a year you know it’s it’s incredible like I a oh I get I do get up between 4:00 and 5:00 in the morning and I have to that’s the time my kids are not up yet that’s the time it allows me to focus the intentional do some prayer meditation get the workout in review my day I’m not calling people at that time think it is never it’s glad I’m not but I you know getting myself centered get myself focused organized that’s also the time I write I am a contributing editor for publication called networking times I write other articles so you know that’s that time that creative space that quiet time and that’s what wealthy entrepreneurs do number six is that wealthy entrepreneurs are extremely aware of market trends that affect their business and they anticipate them so if you’re a home-based business owner Alessi you’re in network marketing and you’ve got a health wellness product and you do not understand the health and wellness industry and you don’t understand trends and all of those things then you’re kind of dipping your toe in the water God love you and you’re not really taking it seriously if you’re in a company and you have say skincare products you have to understand you have to know the statistics you have to know the market drivers and certain businesses have certain times of year where things happen so to give you an example Howard Schultz is you know the founder CEO of Starbucks and Howard Schultz knows very very well that people don’t buy as many hot drinks in the summer yeah so what they did is they started you know years ago frappuccinos that sort of thing he also knows that at Christmas time people love their hot drinks they love their gift cards and so you go into Starbucks and you see things that are seasonal even if you’re in network marketing and you don’t create your own product you don’t you know create the marketing drivers you’re still a CEO of a company within a company and you know things so if you’re say in the health and wellness kind of company September is coming I used to work it for what the largest health club chains in the world and September in January we basically did more business in those two months than we did all the rest of your combined so these are the types of things you need to know so wealthy entrepreneurs are very aware and I suggest that you educate yourself you know you you’ve listened to audio do you listen to podcasts you take courses you read the books I read the New York Times every day I mean you have to choose what it’s gonna be for you but you need to be abreast of what’s going on and there’s a difference between information and inundation so you need to be informed but not inundated I’m not by any stretch the imagination if you sat down on Sunday I read the whole New York Times they take you all day you would get anything done but just knowing enough what’s going on and how it can affect your business I was preparing entrepreneurs for the last recession and thankfully the people that I was working with myself included we didn’t really have any kind of a dip it was like negligible dip in our income and you know if anything was 1% where other companies went out of business people lost their homes but it was knowing too how to watch the market trends how to prepare for that how to be organized especially those things are really really key the next thing is that wealthy entrepreneurs log their numbers they know their numbers so they know what their sales were this time last year they are looking at their business from the vantage point of a quarter they understand how to read financial statements to projections P&L statements how to do a SWOT test on their business so those things are all very very key when it comes to building a business so if you have a home-based business and you’re serious and we have the class that I teach we have people who are photographers we have accountants we have oh my gosh people have hair salons we have network marketers you name it we have anyone who has a business from home it’s a great course and one of the things I teach them is how to log their numbers that actually bring in a CPA to tell them exactly how to do it but that’s what wealthy entrepreneurs do where as amateurs they’ll get their fees I’ll shut them in the drawer that you know do you think I even oh my gosh I’ve known people who just didn’t file taxes for five years they had the IRS contact in the those different things right but this is what wealthy entrepreneurs do and you may be saying well she’s not make enough money it’s deal with money yet but I promise you that if you don’t take care of what you’ve been given you’re not going to get more we always have to make the best of the current position we’re in before we get to the next level the next thing is wealthy entrepreneurs do not get extra distracted so check this out I love the statistic Melanie six percent of wealthy people do not watch any reality television they every six only six percent of wealthy watch reality television only six percent so 70 percent of poor people watch reality television I threw this one in there I thought was a bit surprising because people say oh did you watch Keeping Up with the Kardashians I know who the Kardashians are but no I have not watched comes down to watching reality television or making money or spending time with my kids or my husband or volunteering my time that’s what I’m going to choose so when you think about it those six percent of the wealth you who are watching reality television are probably watching entrepreneurial shows the only reality television IQ watches HD TV it’s like confession White Collar moment please you know I love HGTV but I’m not watching it all the time and they’re watching shows like that they might be watching Undercover Boss Shark Tank I know a lot of my friends who are millionaires they like the Food Network and you know it’s just a little bit not a lot whereas you look at almost 80% of poor people are just stuffing their minds with reality television and they can probably mean every kid in the 19 Kids and Counting but is that gonna get them further ahead and so you want to start to take this into account if that’s something you’re doing watching a lot of reality television I couldn’t name one bachelor/bachelorette I promise you if that’s something you’re doing stop it right now because time as I teach is the universal commodity and in my class and in my book I teach you how to break down time into five minute blocks so you can optimize five-minute segments and wealthy people are making the most out of every single minute and they’re not wasting their time number nine is that wealthy people know how to leverage their time so wealthy people here’s a statistic that wealthy people read thirty minutes a day and there this is nonfiction it’s a statistic and 76% of wealthy people exercise four more times a week and compared to poor people who don’t now interest stealing up the majority wealthy people out there when they’re exercising they’re spending part of that time listening to audiobooks that was another statistic that I pulled and so they’re listening to books on personal development they’re listening to books on finance I know for myself I’ve got right now gosh probably like eight books on my on my ipod I’m out there running and I’m listening to all sorts of things right so it’s very very important that you understand that so by leveraging time wealthy entrepreneurs will multitask wherever possible and wherever feasible and wherever write this down please productive so by multitasking I don’t mean that they’re watching TV making dinner and trying to do a three-way calls by multitasking what I mean is and I write about this in my oh I L book which will be available in September I what I mean by that is that they’re exercising and listening to personal development or they’re driving their car and they’re returning some phone calls they’re doing things like that I’m not talking about trying to you know call clients and watching you know whatever it is on Survivor or something like that I can’t name all the television shows I apologize but you know it’s just doing those things that they’re always leveraging they will use technology whenever possible they will meet in groups they will be organized down to the second in order to get this time leverage and the 10th tip is that wealthy people take financial responsibility when we stop taking financial responsibility and we’re like please just you know send me someone who’s gonna be my white knight or my you know maiden in shining armor who’s gonna rescue me financially that’s not what wealthy entrepreneurs do they take responsibility they build a team they record their receives and they do all of those things and in the course that I teach we teach you how to do all those things in fact I’m bringing in a lawyer a friend of mine who’s specializes in doing law for home based business owners he’s awesome Brian Thompson sandy Bakken who’s the CPA is coming in and over the actually eight weeks I’ve never taught it for eight weeks Melanie we teach you that organize your workspace how to be tax compliant how to record how to time leverage how to stop wasting time stop procrastinating or money and our students they they they do we I have one student his name is Scott I’ll you spot us an example Scott started my course he was struggling struggling struggling when you’re later he actually owns three businesses he’s making more money they ever has in his life and he has much more free time so those are the kinds of things we teach and it’s my goal that everyone in tuning it hang out got something I want you definitely I’m on Twitter Susan underscore so I on Facebook seasons I live whatever it is that you’re taking away from this I want to hear from you I respond to tweets I respond to Facebook so you know put it out there I want to know but hopefully these have been some great tips for our room washing stay then I am absolutely blown away in ten tips what I just got truly if somebody took those tips to heart and just incorporated them you started out by saying we you’ve got to incorporate the habits before the money will come these aren’t the things that you have to do once you’re wealthy it’s the things that you do now I don’t think that there’s anything that you said that somebody who is starting from rock-bottom needing to make five hundred dollars to keep their house couldn’t incorporate into their life and I think that’s the you know one of the key takeaways for me and I’ve also I would as 0.6 you said information not inundation and one of the things that I have but I’ve learned is that I only take advice from people who have walked way ahead of me and I’ve got it and there’s so much information out there in so many places that you can learn from and I heard you say over and over again that the types of people that you’ve chosen to learn from are well how about billionaires you got billionaires in your pocket that’s pretty amazing and not everybody has billionaires but they do have access to people like you and the course that you’re going to do and and what we’re going to do coming up in September with organize your life for the home visit professional is I know it can be completely life-changing for those who take the class and I didn’t isn’t knowing that it’s eight weeks that’s that just gave me it gives you eight more to do more weeks than we had before to get these things done and I’m really excited it would you share you gave us our ten tips can you give them a little taste of what you will cover coming up in the home biz organize your life or home biz professionals absolutely and I started to eight weeks because it was really about accountability so we’re gonna go six weeks and then we’re gonna take a break and then we’re come back for a week and then come back for a week because I want to see everyone crush it for q3 q4 of the remainder of this year so in week number one it’s really about structure and function and I teach you everything from these are the best colors to paint your home office to this is how a IRS and and I’m not a tax expert and Sandy will come the second week um you know IRS or CRA or your government will look at your home office because a lot of people are doing stuff and I always say this if you have to move dishes use your home ‘litham that is not home offices on a flash and so that’s what we do meet one it’s about structure function purging and we see so many people getting results in week number two that’s when we start we bring in our tax professional our students can write in questions and even people yeah I think it’s a 70 percent return II student rate it’s crazy but even people who take in the class before we always do different content because things change and so on so it’s week number two we talk about taxes now you may be like taxes it’s we make it fun and it’s so doable and then we’re gonna be bringing in Brian Thompson I Cameron movies coming lease for your week for to talk about legal structure and that kind of thing cuz our student said hey Susan we want to know more about that I teach you how to be time efficient I teach you the art of saying no I teach you how to communicate clearly we work on branding I mean it is an incredible incredible course and rave rave reviews we have lots of raving fans about it and we keep it really price point because there are courses out I’ve looked at them and they’re not necessarily taught by millionaires which is odd but there were courses out there a lot of them are at least two three four thousand dollars and we just keep it ridiculously low because I want to see people succeed that’s always been my focus I want to make it very palatable for the average entrepreneur and of course educationally you can work with your CI your CPA your CMA whoever it is for you and it should be a tax deduction because it is business education and really the price point is outrageous through June arts Friday July 31st you’ve cut it to 247 I know like my business management team is like you can never sell it that low again so might be the last time we sell it this low it is filling up too we’re already over 30% sold out with two months to go and my my bigger concern is making sure everyone gets in who really deserves to get in because again we see so many
